Rebecca was next into the shining ring that had already had three horses in it. There were soft hoof tracks in the sand of the course. She wanted a quick walk through with the extra time she had to get ready. She walked through the course looking at all the jumps and she smiled and raced back to her horse Sal. “Next up Rebecca May on Descending Sultan” The announcer shouted. The crowd stopped chanting her name and waited for the bell to ring. She mounted Sal and waited. The crowd still quiet all that could be heard was the sound of her heart beat mixed along with Sal’s. She gathered her reins while she waited for the bell to wring. It was quiet the sound of the two heart beats mixed into one and the agony of waited and the pressure of wanting to win the trophy along with thousands of dollars from the winning prize. Holding that golden trophy in her hand she waited a sly grin across her pride filled face she waited more. It seemed as if it had been hours but it had only been a matter of seconds.
The bell rang and Sal leapt out onto the course from the start and she urged him into a canter sending him towards the first jump a small vertical. Sal had grown making him into a tall 18 hand Gelding the pounded forward faster than any horse and human had ever seen. She patted him on the neck her back still landed up straight not a bend to be seen. Her hands perfect steady and lined up perfectly with Sal’s neck. There was not a fault to be seen yet. But there was going to be non to see in her performance. Her head was held high and she did not move only did her hands move with the horse. She was not off balance but only perfect, there was no way that she could possibly be defecting Sal’s performance because they matched perfectly. The were gaining on the first jump the small vertical that Sal could clear easily it was no match for them. They were to good perhaps this course would be so easy that they would clear it with feet to spare on every jump or maybe there would be a clip on one of the jumps but no that could not happen this course was no match for them this was a baby course.
They neared the jump closer and closer it was Red with White stripes on it or perhaps it was the other way around. They came up to the jump and were close enough for her to go into two-point. She shot up into two-point and held her reins tight her knuckles in the perfect spot for her to hold on she had some parts of his braided mane and she clutched on for dear life there was no place of fear in her but she still held on tight gripping the reins but not to tight to decrees her perfect score on the judges view. Her heels down nicely Sal lifted off the ground and went into a half rear and soared over the jump. As they jumped it felt as though time stopped just for them to clear. They stopped breathing and time stopped as Sal half reared and Rebecca held onto him her legs tight around his sides almost as if she was squeezing a tube of toothpaste. She landed on the other side Sal’s hoof’s landed with a soft thud onto the ground. Rebecca went right back into three-point and gathered her reins holding them tight but loose putting enough pressure on the bit to have full control of Sal.
The next jump was a water jump as Rebecca remembered those where Sal’s favourite jumps. He loved to soar over them and splash in the water at practise. She straightened out gathering her reins and holding them in the perfect position again lined up perfect with Sal’s neck and mouth. The reins had enough pressure to hold him in and have control so he would not burst out in full speed on her as he loved to do but he was more calm and relaxed at shows. These were his life and he would die without them. He would have nothing to do at the barn other than be bored and wander around the pasture all day long. They started to breath again and time came back. They were getting close to the next jump the water jump. They loved the tension of not wanting to go into the water but they really wanted to go into the water at the same time. The fu of splashing into the water and feeling it splash in your face and on her clothes was wonderful. It was so fun and they loved it. The fun the Fun and the competition in the judging for who was the best and who could be better.
They surged towards the jump and again it felt as if there was nothing but her and Sal soaring towards the water jump. They surged forward at a full out canter eyeing it as if it were the most valuable thing ever. The time stopped and there was nothing heard but the faint sound of Sal’s hooves pounding on the hard packed sand of the jumping area. It was brown with little blue stripes on it. The water was a crystal clear blue with ripples in the water from the breeze. They surged after it and Rebecca went into two-point and went into the same perfect position that she did on the first jump. Sal half reared and the time stopped all that was heard was the heart beat of the two the horse and rider. She smiled and her face gleamed with pride as Sal soared over the jump with perfect grace and beauty. The garsefullnesss was astonishing but the judges loved it. They landed with out a clip of a knock down it was perfect. They had landed perfectly without a falt or anything. Rebecca went into three point and patted Sal on the neck. They were soon to be up and over jump three. They made it without jumping into the water they landed far from the water.
They had made it clear so far and will hopefully make it clear through out the hole course. Rebecca was sure that they would make it over and win this cource. Her and Sal had one many shows in there time mostly first places but this was her first time in the Mclay show. She was proud of herself and she was proud of Sal for making it through clear so far. Sal could tell that she was happy and that made him happy two. The time went back on and they heard the chanting of the crowd “Go Rebecca, Go Rebecca, Go Rebecca” She felt so proud her face held a gleaming smile and she was just so happy that she had cleared the round so far and was going to clear the whole course. This was the day of her life. She heard the sound of Sal’s hooves pounding in the hard packed show arean sand. The muffled sound as he cantered own the cource. As they neared the next jump. As they grew into one the perfect posture. She was in three-point and having the time of her life this was her kind of great day. They had helped each other a thought there tough times and now , now there were hear helping each other top victory and a golden cup.
The neared jump three the triple full of beauty and grace in there lovely smooth canter. Rebecca barley even bounced into the air with each and every stride that Sal took for the jumps. His braided tail done perfectly and his braided main done perfectly as well. They bounced up and down in the strides at the same pace as Sal’s. They neared the triple even closer it was Red and white as well just as the first jump had been. This would be a hard one but it looked easy for Sal to do. This was his job and he was born to do it. They neared the jump and Rebecca went into two-point and Sal leapt into the air the two bonding into one once again and the clocks stopped ticking the time slowed down. They passed the first part of the jump….. The second…..then the third they had made it over without a clip or a knock down it was perfect. Rebecca blew up with pride they had cleared the hardest part of the cource in no time at all. They were going to have to get a place in the finnals maybe even first that would be wonderful to Rebecca and her barn.
There were three more jumps to go a double wich was up next was a very long water jump and then the last was a brick wall. Rebecca felt tesion but she stopped it not wanting it to mess up Sal’s already perfect performance. They were going good and were yet to stop the perfect ness. She loved this and it was hre job other than taking care of the horses at the barn but that was her full job and this was her part time job although showing her horses were her life. Her mind driffted off to the sights of the golden cup in her living room over her fire place or in her office at the barn to show off to the boarders to tell them that that was a winning stable and it would be a good choice to board there so far there were no boarders just her and her horses. Maybe one day she would find a boyfreind and get married but it was unlikely for that to happen. She whished for someone to take care of her but there was already her horses and she was not ready to get rid of them infact she would never get rid of her horses never ever! They were to special to her, they were almost like her babies but they were more than that, they were her life.
They came near the double that was red and white like the rest of the jumps. The course was wonderfuly set up and she was having the time of her life. She snapped back into what was going on and the judges did not even notice her going off like that because Sal had stayed right there right on track. They came near the jump and Rebecca went into two-point once again and Sal half reared into the sky and popped over the simple fence just to make Rebecca proud. Boy was she ever pround at Sal he was the best horse anyone could have but Tune was good also. She loved him and all her horses there were some arriving soon for her other special shows and breeding. There were soon to be foals frolicking around the pasture and kicking up there heels. There were going to be protective mothers and fathers to see protecting there babies in the pasture just as she protected her horses at the barn almost as if they were her babies.
She waited as they neared the next jump the water jump it looked like the last jump and she went into a quick Two-point and they soared over it with much ease. This was an easy cource not a match for Sal and Rebecca but they still entered in it thinking it would have been harder but instead it was a lot easier for her than she sad even thought. They soared over the next jump with ease and did not clip or touch the jump in anyway it had not fallen down either. She gleamed with pride and she slowed him down into a trot and her posting matched perfectly with his strides. She trotted out of the ring to meet her trainer. He patted her lag and smiled “That was a perfect round” He said with pride. “Thanks” Rebecca said and Sal nickered and pushed his head into Rebecca’s Trainer’s stomach. The trainer patted his head and left. Rebecca waved to Tess and Maria.
